Validity requirement of Passport

I want to travel to China in mid February of march 2015, but my passport will be expiring in the month of May -2015, can i get an visa in this case.

If you apply a visa in January, you cannot get one, because you do not have a validity more than 6 months.

At least, you need to make sure that it has a validity of 6 months at least when you applying and it is still in valid when you traveling. It may not cause troubles when entering if your passport does not have 6 months' validity.
