Where does you exact start your trip?
If you start from the KL to Houston via Shanghai, no transit type is needed since you just have two hours and a half.

Hi, it is clear now. You do not need a transit visa to transfer in Shanghai, since you just stay for two hours and a half and the departure place and final destination are from two different countries for Shanghai. So please take it easy.
