About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Two seperate tickets when transferring in Shanghai

I am flying from Europe to Shanghai on a European carrier and then from Shanghai to Manila with an Asian carrier on a seperate ticket. The transfer time is 6 hours. As these are two different carriers and tickets I will most probably have to collect my luggage and recheck in for the new flight. Can I benefit from the 72h transit visa for this procedure? Do I need to inform any airlines in advance about it?

Jarek, you can make use of 72 hours free transit in Shanghai. Yes, you are right. You should inform the airline at least 30 minutes before it lands at Shanghai Airport. The airline then informs airport immigration office. After landing, you can follow instructions to apply for 72 hours free transit.

If you are worried, you may call Shanghai Airport Immigration Inspection at 0086-21-51105100 to confirm whether you can enjoy 72 hours free transit.
