About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

United to Thai connection

We flew from Chicago to bangkok with three hour between flights. Our luggage was tagged Dtw (Detroit) to Shanghai to Bangkok. As we were boarding the Thai flight we were pulled out and told our luggage is not automatically transferred in SH. United and Thai are partner airlines. The customs people said everyone has to claim bags in pudong airport. We left our luggage at PVG and flew to bangkok. The Thai airline chief concierge got our bags sent the next day toBangkok. The bags were tagged correctly. Why did we have this problem? Is this some new policy at PVG? Thai and United airlines said they could not explain what happened. This happened in November 2013. I avoid traveling thru this city now transit thru Tokyo or Seoul or hongkong. What happened?

The airport staff was correct that every passenger has to claim their luggage when transferring from international to international, unless they use China Eastern Airline and other four airlines. For this info, you can search out at the oficial website of PVG.

Thank you for that information... do you recheck immediately after customs or have to go to the airline counters to recheck them..

Neither United Airline nor Thai airlines was aware that you had to retrieve and recheck the bags.. kind regards Stan.

I remember the lugagge recheck-in can be done immediately after the immigration. Upon arrival, there are clear signs. If you are still confused about that, consult the staff.
Good luck!
