About:China Visa Application in UK

I am holding UK passport and planning to visit Southern China

and then take a train to Hong Kong for a day and come back to China by train and then returning to UK. I understand that I don't need a visa for Hong Kong, but do I need a double-entry Chinese type? If so, do I need any invitation letter from someone in Hong Kong as well? I've an invitation letter from person I am visiting in China.

Thank you...

You will go to Southern China and then to HK and then back to China, right?
If so, you need to have a double entry Chinese one. The invitation letter from HK is not needed for entering that time, but just your valid passport.
