Indian Passport validity for chinese visa

my Indian passport is valid till 16 Dec 2014 and would like to travel to china in the first week of November and come back with one week. . Can I apply one now or do i need to renew the passport

You need to renew your passport first and then apply for a Tourisit L. At least 6 months' validity is required on your passport is required for application.
