About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will I need a Visa from SFO to PVG for 72 hours then PVG to BKK and back to PVG to fly to SFO

Will I be able to use the 72 hour free transit if I'm flying from San Francisco to Shanghai from Oct 22nd - Oct 25 then from Shanghai to Bangkok then flying back to Shanghai from Bangkok on Nov 5 arriving at 6:30am to catch a flight from Shanghai to San Francisco at 1:30pm? I have a r/t ticket that I purchased from SFO to Shanghai but I will be leaving Shanghai within 72 hours to go to Thailand but flying back to Shanghai to catch my flight to San Francisco.

Hi, David. You are American person, right?
If you can provide an ticket with confirmed seat from Shanghai to Thailand, you can enjoy the 72-hour free transit, otherwise, you cannot. So you are suggested to book a ticket to Thailand in advance.
