Layover in another Chinese City

I am flying from New York, USA to Beijing. When I leave Beijing I am flying to Bangkok, but have a layyover in Xiamen, China. Is this acceptable? This is all happening within 72 hours.

JFK (USA) -> PEK (2 days) -> XMN (China) -> layover in airport -> BKK (Thailand)

Sara, you are not eligible for 72 hours free transit because you stop in two places (Beijing and Xiamen) before you fly out.
