Visa to Hongkong for a day trip

I have a Chinese L Visa. Can I visit Hongkong on a day trip?. Do I have to apply a separate visa while im at Shenzhen?

Yes, a separate visa is needed. But people from some countries can get the visa on arrival at SZ border and others have to apply for one in their home country. So let me know which country you are from.
