About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does Hong Kong qualify as the 3rd country?

I am travelling from Australia to Guangzhou and then onto Hong Kong. Does this qualify for the visa free entry status?
Thanks

HK is not regarded as a third country, but it is regarded as a third region based on the policy. So if the staying time is longer than 72 hours, you can still enjoy the policy.
