You should depart before it expires. It's illegal to stay in China after it expires.

Looking at a China Visa website, it says i may continue my stay past my visa expiration date for as long as the 'days after entry' period, which in this case of my multi-entry visa is 90 days. So my understanding is that I may stay up to 90 days after expiration of my visa.
