Visiting the Great Wall during my transfering

If I have a layover in Beijing, am I able to visit the Great wall, I am not sure if this is still considered the same city even though the Great wall is about 10 to 20 miles outside of Beijing, in my mind, it is part of the tour of the City....Thanks for your suggestions...
