It won't be too cold in November. The average temperature is around 15 degrees Celsius. It's too urgent to have a one-day trip from Chongqing to Three Gorges. The earliest D train departs at 08:50 and arrives in Yichang at 13:20. The last D train from Yichang to Chongqing departs at 18:13 and arrives at 23:15. So you just have around four hours to travel from Yichang East Railway Station and get back to the railway station to catch the return train. It takes around 1 to 1.5 hours to reach the Three Gorges. Therefore, you may just have around 1 hour to have a visit.
I think you may spend two days to finish your trip in Three Gorges. You may arrive at night, stay there for a night and then visit the dam next morning and then get back to Chongqing. It's more applicable.
