About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I use 72-hour free transit if I have two different tickets

I am flying from Chicago to Beijing on one ticket/airline, staying there for less than 72 hours, then flying from Beijing to Sydney on a different ticket/airline. Can I utilize 72 hour visa? Thanks.

You can still use the 72-hour policy, if your flight to Sydeny has a confirmed seat.
