About:China Visa

Need regular visa when in Shanghai just 1 day on cruise?

I am an American citizen (living permanently in Norway), travelling on a U.S. passport. I'm cruising with Celebrity Cruises, Japan to Singapore, 26 Oct. to 23 Nov. 2014, with just one day in mainland China (Shanghai). Daytime only, no hotel, staying on the ship. Must I have the regular L type, or is there some simpler "stopover" version?

Beth, you needn't apply for the L type because you enjoy 24 hours free transit if you just stay less than 24 hours in Shanghai.
