About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I'm a Canadian and I want to fly Taipei - hong Kong - Beijing - Toronto

is this possible? Also will it matter if I have a previous visa where I overstayed? If so what are the exact steps I would take at the Hong Kong Airport and Beijing airport

There is no problem for your stay in HK. However, I am not sure if you will be refused at Beijing Airport because of your overstaying history. You may contact the airport to confirm this.
