Is it possible to gain access to my passport while it is in possession of the Entry / Exit Bureau?

I have an unusual situation, so I'm not sure if this question should go here. I live in Beijing, and my passport is currently at the Entry / Exit Bureau in Yonghegong, where they are extending my residence. I have to wait another 2 weeks or so before collecting it. However, my new employers in Taiwan are trying to sort out my work visa application so I can move there. They urgently need a copy of my passport's main page, but I don't have one, because this is a new passport that I brought directly from the Embassy to the Entry / Exit Bureau, without making a copy. Now I am wondering: is there a way that I can ask the Entry / Exit people to either (a) make a photocopy of my passport's main page, or (b) allow me temporary access to my passport so I can make a photocopy using the public photocopiers they have in the lobby there? I know it's an unusual question and I would appreciate any insight into this situation.

Since your passport is in Exit - Entry Bureau, you may have a slip to proof that your passport is under using for extension of your residence permit. I wonder whether the slip can be used for application your work permit in Taiwan?

For photocopying your passport, it is not allowed in general. But it is still suggested to contact the Entry-Exit Bureau directly for asking a more exact information on this. Their phone numbe is 010-84020101.
