72H visa exemption and luggages

dear all,
i will flight from thailand to shanghai just to take my plain back to italy. If i don't want to get out the airport do I certainly not need the 72 hours exemption? I was wondering if i am allowed to stay in the entire airport, or I actually have to stay within some kind of international flight zone. In that case, if i have to pick up my luggages from thailand, is it still ok or I have to exit the international arrival and therefoere have to go trhough some checks?
Thank you
Alice

If you stay over 72 hours, you need a transit one for transfer.
If you stay no more than 72 hours, you can enjoy the exemption policy.
Under this policy, no transit one is needed and you are allowed to stay in the entire airport. If you just stay in the transfering area, nothing is needed. If you want to reach other places in the airport, you need to apply for a stay permit stamp.

If you luggage is not checked-in to your destination, you have to exist the international arrival and then go through the immigration once and then security check before you board the next flight.

thank you very much
Alice.

If you can check-in your luggage directly to Italy in Thailand, I do not think you still need to pick up in Shanghai and you do not need to exit the international arrival and neither of getting a permit stamp.
You need to show them your tickets to Italy and your passport to get that permit stamp at the immigration in the airport.
