American citizen living in China

Hi. I am currently living in China and plan to go to Hong Kong in October. It seems super easy to get to HK as an American because I hear no visa or permit is needed. Besides going through exit procedures to leave China and enter HK, is it really that easy to get in? Do I have to pay anything to enter HK? And will I get a stamp on my passport?

Yes, it is really easy to get it at the border.
You will get a landing slip at the Border for free. The expiring date is printed on it.
