About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

If I leave the shanghai airport and reside outside will the transit visa required?

On my return from kansai japan i want to stay at shanghai for 48 HOURS.

Yes, you should apply for a transit type in advance because you stay longer than 24 hours.
