About:Hong Kong Octopus Card

Octopus card Enquiry in HK

We are a family of 5 going to HK for 6 days in July/Aug, please advise the followings:-

1) Do we need to purchase individual card OR 1 card for the whole family?

2) Which type of card -- Airport Express Travel Card + 3days Unlimited Travel (Item A) OR Standard Octopus Card (Item B) is suitable for us ? What is the recommended cost ?

3) If Item A is recommended , as we are staying more than 3 days, how do we handle the travelling fares for the 4th to 6th days -- top up the card or purchase a new card ?

4) Please advise the fare rates for the respective transportation in HK.

You need to buy individual for each.
If you plans to use the airport express traveling between the airport and the city proper, you are suggested to buy the airport express travel pass. If not, you can buy the Octopus Card.
For the A card, you can top for it and use the travel pass as a ordinary Octopus card.
It is a little bit hard to fare rates for respective transportation. In general, the local transportation fare is not cheap. When I was there, I used around 100HKD per day on transportation on MTR trains and public buses. For the red taxi, the flag fall is around 20HKD for the first 2km. Then it charges 2.5HKD per 200m.
