About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

Do I need to make any appointment before I apply visa in person from the embassy/consulate in Japan?

Hi, I want to apply for a M type when I visit Japan but I hold a Canadian passport. It seems that I must apply directly from the embassy. So do I need to make an appointment? if so, where can I make appointment?
