Transfering in Beijing airport, need a visa?

We arrive in Bejing from Mongolia Aug. 30, 2014 at 200p. We fly out of Bejing to Los Angeles Sept 4, 2014 at 2 pm. Do we need to apply one to stay in Bejing those days? What is the next step?

A transit one or a L type is OK.

Considering your real situation, the transit G is much suggested for it is easier to get with less documents required. For the G type, your passport, the application form with recent taken photo, an onward air (train or ship) ticket with confirmed date and seat to Los Angeles are needed.
