Hi, is your stay in HK a stopover only? I am afraid you have to apply for a visa because this itinerary looks like a return trip, with HK and Macao close to each other. The free transit requires a direct transit via Beijing only.

Hi James, Simon is right because your itnerary (Sydney-Beijing-Macao) may not be considered as a direct transit via Beijing. You can try to contact Beijing airport directly for more details if possible. 0086-10-56095400
