About:Passport

Do passports need to be renewed prior to us leaving seeing as we are not leaving the airport and will only be in transit?

I am travelling to the UK via HongKong and will not be leaving the airport as only have a 3 hour stopover. My husband and I have a passport that will have 5 months valid on it on our return home back to New Zealand.
