Travel Advice about Xian

So two of my friends and I are flying into that city on Tuesday afternoon (6/24). We plan on going to Mt. Hua on Wednesday (6/25), staying the night at the summit and then leaving Thursday afternoon (6/26). We need to be in Beijing by Saturday afternoon (6/28) and are trying to look at all of our possible options that we can do Thursday night, all day on Friday (6/27), and Saturday morning before we leave for Beijing. Any advice would be appreciated as we are having a bit of trouble trying to figure out the best things to do with our time! Thanks!

Climbing the Mt. Hua is a labor-consuming task. So if you have plans to make a short visit to XA city, you are suggested to visit the city first.

In my opinion, you are suggested to climb the Mt. Hua at night, so that you can not only avoid living in the bad condition hotels on the top of the mountain, but also enjoy the wonderful sunrise on the top. Many people choose to climb the mountain and get down in the early morning. So you can tour around XA city on June 24 and June 25 and then take the last bullet train from XA North Railway Station to Huashan Railway Station.

In Beijing, it is suggested to go to Houhai area and Sanlitun area for night life. For Friday, if you did not went to the Great Wall, you can visit the Great Wall. If you have been there once, you can visit places that I have never been, such as the Forbidden City, the Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven and so on.

Lisa, thank you for your reply. We are going to be in Beijing for two weeks after we arrive there and are going to do most of that stuff in that time. What we were thinking about is heading to some places in between Mt. Hua Beijing, such as Taiyuan, Pingyao, and Datong but do not know what to do in those places. If you had any advice for that or any other sights that we could see before actually entering Beijing that would be helpful!

If so, one day and two nights are just enough for covering Pingyao and its nearby attractions such as the Wang's Grand Courtyard.

From XA, you can take an overnight train to Pingyao. Then you can visit the ancient town, the Wang's Grand Courtyard, Shuanglin Temple and even the Mianshan Mountain.

Then take another overnight train to go back to Beijing. If you leave Beijing in late afternoon, you can head for Taiyuan for a short visit to Jinci Temple on Saturday. Then fly back to Beijing and leave Beijing in late afternoon.
