About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Seoul-Beijing - Pyongyang

I'm traveling from Seoul to Beijing by Asiana and then from Beijing to Pyongyang by Air Koryo. Am I allowed for 72-hour visa free transit in Beijing? My tickets are dated properly (3-day gap), but they are 2 different airlines.
I've been told the policy applies only to one and the same carrier?? What about the return way? May I stay for 72-hour in Beijing again on my way back to Seoul? Thanks!

Hi, as far as I know, tickets of different airlines are ok to avail this free transit in Beijing. You can try to confirm this with Beijing airport inspection office directly via 0086-10-56095400

You should be OK, Eva. I am an American citizen but with a Hong Kong residence card. Last September, I flew from Hong Kong to Beijing on Hong Kong Airways. Stayed less than 72 hours and visited friends there. My departure afterward was to Moscow on Aeroflot. I was granted the "G visa" at the airport. So if you are coming to Beijing from France and going to North Korea within 72 hours after your arrival, you should be fine.

The best way to double-check is to call the airline that you are using from Paris to Beijing. They deal with these questions all the time.

Sorry, my mistake about the France question. But the rule should be the same. In from South Korea, out to North Korea. You should be allowed to stay up to 72 hours in each direction.
