About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Dublin-Beijing-Pyongyang-Beijing-Dublin

Hi, I will be traveling to Bejing on a Tourist(L)visa that is only single entry and spending about two weeks going to various locations around China. When I return to Bejing I want to travel by train to Pyongyang in North Korea. I plan to spend about 72 hours there and then fly back to Bejing. Can I apply for 72-Hour Visa-Free Transit or 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit before my return flight back to Dublin even though I held a Tourist L visa?

If I understand correctly, you won’t hold a tourist (L) visa at the time of your second entry to China because it will have expired. But if you fly Pyongyang-Beijing-Dublin on a qualifying passport you will be eligible for 24 or 144 hours transit without visa (72 hours at Beijing disappeared a few years ago).
