About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Valid for 72hour free transit??

Hi,

I fly from Madrid to Beijing, and the flight also stops at Shanghai for refuelling, and then to Melbourne. I will be spending 13 hours in China but one travel agent said I need a visa due to the flight stopping at Beijing AND Shanghai. Or can I still get away with the 72 hour free transit?
Thanks

72 hour free transit only applies to direct transit via one eligible city only, so you can not avail this free transit for your stay in China. But as I read above that you will only spend 13 hours the whole trip, then you can also enjoy free transit. There is another 24 hour free transit policy actually.

Yes, it is within 24hours my total stay. Are you sure? Even if I travel to different airports?

Yes, I am sure. If your total transit is less than 24 hours in China, you just need to apply for a free stay permit (24 hours) after arrival at Beijing airport.

Excellent, thank you. My travel agent also just confirmed this but you're on the ball ;) Cheers
