About:China Tourist Visa

American passport holder in Korea, I assume I cannot use the 72 hour visa?

I assume this 72 hour window is for ALL OF CHINA? For example, I will spend less than 72 hours in Beijing then travel to Shanghai for less than 72 hours there. In total, I'll be in China for over 100 hours, but less than 72 hours in both cities.

Nope, 72 hours free transit is adopted in several Chinese cities. You won't enjoy 72 hours free transit if you pass by two or more cities even though your total stay in these two cities is less than 72 hours.
