Sussie, it's safe to travel on the Silk Road. After the terrorist attack, China has implemented series of policies to ensure national security. More and more polices have been deployed to patrol on the streets. You needn't be worried about this. It's summer time. However, the temperature difference between daytime and nighttime is sharp. You may bring summer clothes like shirts, T-shirts, jeans and thin jacket. Also you need to bring sunscreen and sun glasses.
