About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72h free transit visa application and visit of villages around Shanghai

Could you please clarify if request for 72h free transit must be done before arrival or after arrival at the airport?
During my 72h stay at Shanghai, am I allowed to go and visit Suzhou and Zhouzhuang villages?

Hi, you need to inform your airline about this free transit request before taking flight to Shanghai. So that the permit will be issued upon arrival. However, it is not allowed to leave Shanghai city during this stopover.

But if I am not able to contact my airline (flight ticket ordered on Internet via special French flight search web site), can I do it only once I arrived?
