Residence Permit After Leaving a Job

Hi,

I've worked for an English training school for almost a year and a half now, and have been on a Z for something like a year -- I came over on an F visa, a fairly common if unlawful practice by my employer, one of several on his part. Anyway, I want to leave my job, finally. My contract is up in August, but I would like to spend a month, maybe two, traveling around a bit, then return to America, where I'm from. My current Residence Permit expires on the 25th of May. Tomorrow, I will go with my boss, and several other employees whose permits are also expiring, to renew my Residence Permit for a period of three months. My plan after doing this is to tell my boss that I'm leaving, cooperating with the terms of my contract and paying the fee necessary to terminate it. My hope is this goes smoothly, and I think it will. I'm also really hoping/praying that I don't lose my Residency Permit in the process. My thinking is that, assuming my boss is understanding, I can leave my job and still stay in China, on my Residency Permit, until those three months are up? At which time I would leave, obviously unable to renew it without an employer's backing. (I suppose maybe I could ask for an L extension at this time? But I will probably be ready to return home by then.) Does anyone have any wisdom to offer a person in this particular situation? It's a bit hard to Google. Thanks.

Hi, you can extend your residence permit with supporting documents from your company. Actually, it depends on your employer if you plan to leave after extension. If he accepts it without canceling your residence pemit and work permit, you can stay as long as its validity.
