Purchasing Bus Tickets in Advance From a Different Station

Hi, this is not specific to Beijing, but I was hoping you can help me understand 2 items please: 1) can we purchase bus tickets up to 7 days in advance at any bus station? For example, can we purchase tickets departing from Nanjing from the Bejiing bus station, and if not, 2) what is the best way to purchase tickets in advance if we will not be at the departing station until the same day? We did not want to risk them being sold out. Thank you so much.

Patricia, different bus station may have different ticket pre-sale periods. You may buy the tickets 7 or 10 days in advance. At another bus station, you can only buy 3 days in advance. If you have friends, you may ask them to buy the tickets for you in advance. However, the passengers are required to provide their identity documents (ID card, passport etc) during certain periods, such as May Day Holiday and National Day Holiday. under the circumstances, you have no choice but buy the tickets in person.

Thank you, Peter, very helpful! One other question please. Can you buy bus tickets departing from a certain city (ie. Nanjing) from a Beijing bus station?

I am sorry, Patricia. I am not in China currently so that I can't buy the tickets.

Hi again, Peter, I do appreciate your quick responses. I'd like to clarify my question. I wasn't asking if you personally could purchase tickets for us. Instead, I would like to know if anyone can purchase bus tickets for any route from any bus station in China. For example, if I visited the Beijing bus station, can I purchase tickets there for a route that starts in a city other than Beijing? Thanks again.

Sorry, you can't do that. A certain bus station just sell tickets for the buses that departs there. It's unlike train ticket sales. However, some bus stations do sell tickets online. If you can read Chinese, you may register as a member and book the tickets online.
