About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

Can a US citizen on holiday in Japan get a "L" Chinese visa directly from Chinese embassy in Japan?

Lots of information/misinformation out there?!! So, if I'm a US citizen, NOT working in Japan (but as a tourist on holiday in Japan), I can apply directly to the Chinese Embassy in Japan to get a Chinese L Tourist? Praying so, as after visiting Japan, we hope to fly directly to China!

Does the embassy offer expedited processing for an additional fee??!

Thanks a million:-)

Hi, you can apply directly from Chinese embassy in Tokyo if you are a tourist there. But as I know, the embassy does not provide express service for US passport holders as well as applicants from many other EU counties.

Thanks, Judy! We will try to get the expedited visa in Tokyo at the Chinese Embassy. If not, will try again in Osaka at the consulate. Most likely if we can't get it in Tokyo, then won't have better luck in Osaka though:-( I guess we're looking at applying 1 morning and getting it maybe 4 days later?!?! I know we were told that if we apply in Hong Kong before noon, we could pick it up by 5 pm the following day. Didn't want to spend that much time in Tokyo though. Wanted to base ourselves in Osaka and visit Kyoto and other Japanese smaller cities. Oh well.....thanks, Judy! Will keep all posted!

This is Patricia....... we just heard from an agency in Japan that they can't help us (we don't live/work in Japan), but to apply directly to the Chinese embassy/consulates. we were told..."15,000 Yen for issuing in 4 working days. +3,000 yen for issuing in
2 working days. in cash to the vending machine in the office when you receive the visa."

We hope this is correct and we will apply in Tokyo for an expedited L tourist to China!

Update from Patricia.......I was in Osaka last week as a tourist and, as US citizens, applied for a "L" tourist single entry. The Chinese consulate is ONLY open 9-12 Mon-Fri. We dropped our completed applications with photos, plane/hotel info off one morning. Next morning came back at 9 am, paid the $150 + $30 for rush service, and off we went...painless. It is good for 90 days from date in my passport and valid for 30 days once we enter.
