British national visiting his daughter studying in China

Hi there,

My daughter (also a British national) is studying in Shanghai and I plan to visit her in a week. What do I need to apply for a visa. Should I buy a ticket first? I hold a Thai Retirement visa in Thailand. Do I have to go to Bangkok in person to apply? I live in Pattaya. What type should I apply for? If it takes 4 days to process, do I have to go in person to collect it also?

Thank you so much for your help!

Hi, you can apply for a tourist L with round-trip ticket and hotel reservation. Or you can just provide an invitation letter from your daughter and copies of her passport and residence permit instead of tickets and hotel booking. If you want to stay longer than 30 days there, you can choose to apply for family visit S type, the birth certificate of your daughter is required. For application itself, you can either apply in person or by someone or a travel agency entrusted.
