About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Flight NRT-PVG-DPS confirmed, w/ 8hr stopover

I can see that Norway is not on your list, but according to the Chinese Embassy in Norway norwegian citizens are also eligible for a visa-free transit entry. Can you confirm this?

My question is: I've got a routing NRT-PVG-DPS confirmed with China Eastern, with a stopover in Shanghai for about 8hrs.. Will I need to get the permit registered at a local police station if the stay in Shanghai city is under 8hrs?

Yes, you enjoy free transit in China if your stopover is less than 24 hours. And you only need to apply for a free stay permit after arrival at Shanghai airport if you plan to go out for sightseeing or stay in a hotel outside of the airport. It is unnecessary for you to register at a local police station.
