Do you need both Chinese and Mongolian currency while travelling between the two countries?

Is it possible to get Mongolian currency in China? We are travelling by train from Beijing to Ulaan Bator and want to know if we can exchange either US dollars or Chinese currency for Mongolian money on the train?

I'm afraid that you can not exchange on the train, but you can get Mongolian currency in Bank of China in advance.
