About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

We are stopping over at PVG airport from MEL for 16 hrs before travelling on to NYC.

Is it easy to travel into Shanghai via the Maglev? Do we need to go through customs first and where does our luggage go during this time?
Is 16 hrs long enough to shop and get back to our next flight?

You need to use the maglev+subway trains to reach the city proper and both of them are easy to catch.
You need to go through the custom since you want to enter SH city. If you have the connecting flights, your luggage will be transferred directly to your final destination. If no, you need to collect your luggage and store it in the airport.

16 hours are enough, but you can only wander along the Nanjing Road for shopping.
