About:China Work Visa

I start work in September in Dalian. Can I stay there as a tourist until my work starts?

I want to stay on an L for 3 months (to stay with my fiancé whom studies in Dalian.) Then start work in September. I don't want to come back to the UK because its too expensive. Can I stay in Dalian until my z starts?
If not, can I stay in Hong Kong for 3 months until my z starts without going back to the UK?

I am afraid you can not change L to Z without leaving. A signle entry Z is valid for 3 months but with 30 days only as the duration of stay. So, better not come too early.

No, unless you are a HK resident or with Korea ARC valid for 6 months.
