About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

My family and I have a 22 hour layover in shanghai. Can we leave the airport and stay in a hotel without a visa?

Yes, it is ok, but you have to get a stay permit (a stamp actually) after arrival at Shanghai airport showing your flight ticket for leaving, passport and hotel reservation if any.
