China tourist visa available in Kabul?

I am a British teacher working in Kabul. I previously taught in China and would like to have a short holiday there to see friends and places I know. I visited the embassy today and was informed that rules have changed and to get a tourist type for China I must go back to the UK. Is this true? And how long will these rules be in place?

I thought you could apply it in Afghanistan. According to the notice on the website of Chinese embassy in Afghanistan, foreigners who apply there should provide introduction letter from their companies, work permit, legal visa in AF. If you plan to apply for the L type, you should provide round-trip air tickets and hotel reservation in PRC.

If the embassy told you to apply in your own country, then you have no choice but get back for the application, I think.

Thankyou for your reply Miss Linda. I had all the necessary documents but still I was told I would have to go back to UK (which would double the cost for a one week holiday), but the officer at the embassy did not tell me why this has changed, and for how long.
