If you are going to visit hutong in Beijing is it worth the extra time to also see Pingyao?

Yes, it is worth.
The Hutong and PY are in different styles and own different cultures.
If time is possible, the PY is suggested.1

Yes, but I highly recommend to go to Ping Yao because there's more historical sights there and the city itself is the most ancient city in china, quite a tourist attraction really0
