Obtaining a Chinese Visa with an Emergency Travel Document from the UK Embassay in Tokyo

Dear Sir/Madam,
I shall be attending the AOGIN Conference in Beijing from April 25-27th, leaving Japan on the 24th. I have a valid British Passport, but do not have 3 blank pages necessary for it. I do not have enough time to get a new passport since it takes over 4 weeks and the aplication is 2 weeks.
Can I use an emergency travel document issued by the British Embassay in Tokyo to apply for application? I am a British citizen resident in Japan.

I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely
Dr Sharon J.B. Hanley
