tourist visa for more than 30 days

Question

we would like to make one entry into China but to stay for around 40 days.  Is it possible to do this on a single entry, or should we apply for a double entry or multiple entry?

A double entry type is better. But it won't be a problem if you just get a single entry L type. If so, you can ask for an extension from the local entry and exit management bureau. Remember to submit your application for extension at least seven days before it expires.
