About:China Tourist Visa

Tourist visa without hotel booking

My boyfriend will be teaching English in China and so I'm planning on getting a one year L type and living with him while he's there. But, this means that I won't have any hotel bookings (since he'll have an apartment that we'll be living in) and we'd be going at the same time so he can't invite me. What's the best plan of action here? Should I book a hotel and then cancel it? (Would only one short-term hotel booking be okay even if I'm applying for a year long type?) Should he go before me and then invite me? (Can he even do that or does the person inviting have to be Chinese?) If I have friends-of-friends who live in China and would be willing to invite me should I just get them to "fake" one for me? Help please!

Well, your solutions are ok. I mean you can apply with the invitation letter from your friends of your friends. Or your boyfriend can go to PRC and then send you the invitation letter. But I am not sure if you will be granted with a 12 month L type.

Why not? What does somebody need in order to get the one year type?

I gave you an answer based on what most people encoutered. If you haven't bee to PRC before, you will usually gain one or double entry L type with 30 days of each duration. Anyway, you can try to apply for the 12 months L and then the consular officer will decide what the most suitable one you will get.
