Yeah, it is possible. After entering China by road, you can take a train from Ha-Shih to Urumqi first, which takes a little longer than 24h. Then at Urumqi, there is only one train to Guangzhou (T36/T37) and it takes around 48h. Train to Urumqi costs 76.5-189RMB for a hard seat and sleepers cost 182.5-527.5RMB per person. And the train to Guangzhou costs 423.5-1,286.5RMB for hard seats or sleepers.
As it takes so much time, I suggest you take plane to travel. I know plane no. CZ6885 of China Southern Airlines flies from Ha-shih to Guangzhou with a stopover at Urumqi and sometimes, there are great discounts for the air ticket fees. It takes a little longer han 7h for the whole journey.
