About:Dress Code in China

Are shorts acceptable in high heat? Also what about tattoos and piercings?

I'll be in China this summer (late july-early august). I'll be in Beijing for a weekend, then traveling to the country side to teach Chinese students english. I know that it will be very hot and was wondering if shorts are acceptable? I also have a large tattoo on my thigh and have my septum pierced and was wondering what Chinese think of that.

I am a Chinese. I never see any Chinese teacher wear shorts to give lessons. By the way, I don't think it is a good idea to show your tattoo. Your students might be scared when they saw it.

It's going at a summer camp type thing if that makes any difference. One week with Elementary students and the next week with High school students.

Then I don't think you will need to wear formal dress. Shorts will be ok but I still think it's good to cover your tattoo in case kids are scared of you.
