I know two of them made outstanding contributions:
Liu Bang (Emperor Gaozu): He founded the Han to be the first emperor during the dynasty.
Liu Che (Emperor Wui): During his throne, he successfully conquered the Huns, with the help of Huo Qubing, and Wei Qing (two famous generals then).
