Do I need a Transit Visa to get between Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong Airports?

My friends and I are travelling to Thailand from Japan in March, but we're not sure if we need to get a transit visa. We fly into Hongqiao Airport and then out of Pudong Airport a few hours later, so in order to get between the two airports will we need a transit visa to leave the airport? Thanks!

No transit visa is needed, but you need to apply for a stay permit upon landing, with which you are allowed to get out of the airpoer to catch your plane in the other airport.
